Rubicon Falls
Located in the stunning Rubicon Valley Historic Area, the Rubicon Falls walk starts at the Rubicon Hydro Power Station.
On the right of the power station, follow the Rubicon River Road (service access track only) for approx. 3.7km upwards through the steep sided valley which follows the river and passes Rubicon Falls Power Station on your right.
The 40m high Rubicon Falls comes into view as you climb higher up the road and viewing is restricted to the elevated roadside due to the harsh inaccessible terrain. Nevertheless it's definitely worth the hike.
You can continue up the road even further to Rubicon Falls Dam or combine it into a longer walk and do the circuit to Royston Power Station and the 15,000 ft Siphon Bridge.
GETTING THERE
From Melbourne, take the Maroondah Highway over the stunning Black Spur to Taggerty. Alternatively, from the Goulburn Valley Highway take the Maroondah Highway to Taggerty via Alexandra. From Taggerty head towards Eildon before turning off at Rubicon Road. If you follow this it eventually turns into an unsealed road and passes several camp grounds on your left. As you continue to drive you will see Rubicon Power Station ahead and the pipeline that shoots up the hill, continue straight here for 300m (do not cross the river) and park to the side of the closed gate. This is where your walk will start.
